Choose this style when you expect to type the password by hand instead of using autofill.

  1. Choose the number of words; seven is the starting point.
  2. Generate a fresh combination of randomly chosen words.
  3. Copy and save the whole phrase, including the separators.

Keep the randomly chosen words. Replacing them with a favorite saying makes the password more predictable.

How it works

Short words, independently chosen

This page uses EFF’s Short Wordlist #1: 1,296 words selected for easier typing. Seven words and hyphens are the default. Each word is selected independently, so repeats are possible and valid.

You can change the separator and insert three random digits between words. Separators have no inherent randomness. Two or three words are practice settings, not the recommended starting point for important accounts.

What happens to your input?

This tool does its work on this page. The site does not submit your entries or results or keep a history. However, any script allowed to run on the page could read its fields.
